Undermount Sink
Undermount sinks get that name because they are really mounted from the bottom of the bathroom countertop. They are sometimes confused with drop-in sinks, which are sinks that come in many different styles that have lips around them that you enter from above the vanity top.
While a drop-in sink actually hangs from a constructed lip on the sink that’s built into it, an undermount sink is sitting below the countertop, with none of the actual sink itself coming above it.
There are many reasons that homeowners want to get brand new bathroom vanity sinks. Maybe the sink has begun to rust, or maybe it’s because the homeowner just wants a different style. If you don’t know all of the options, our reputable bathroom contractors at Seattle Bathroom Remodel will be glad to show you all the different kinds.
Vanity Sink
There are all different kinds of vanity sinks out there, and depending on how much space you want to take up in your new bathroom remodel, you would choose whether or not the sink has cabinets or is freestanding. Drop-in sinks would be dependent upon the bathroom countertop, because again they essentially drop-in and hang underneath the sink. But, there doesn’t necessarily have to be a cabinet underneath with drop-in or undermount sinks, depending on the overall style of the vanity structure.
Wall-mounted sinks are ones that are attached to the wall from behind, and are held up by a base, such as pedestal sinks or basin sinks with legs. There are of course those wall-mounted sinks that do not have legs, and these give your bathroom a feeling of more space.
Vessel Sink
A vessel sink is an above counter lavatory, and our bathroom contractors get asked about them all the time because they come in so many different styles. Looking at the sink itself, you could see the part of it at the lower portion where the lip would actually sit on the vanity countertop.
It kind of looks like a bowl that’s sitting on top of the counter, which is a perfect contemporary compliment to so many different visions of bathroom renovation that homeowners across Seattle have. Vessel sinks are super stylish, and give a modern feel to just about any bathroom layout you can think of.
A question that our bathroom remodel contractors get a lot from homeowners when they see vessel sinks for the first time is “How do you close the drain if there’s no linkage between the faucet and the drain itself?”. With a vessel sink, there are certain kinds that have different levels of height that you would choose initially to determine how high you want it to sit above the vanity.
You would have to get a certain type of drain that sits above the countertop a little higher in order to fit that actual sink. There are some nice vessel drains that are called pop-up drains. With these drains, all you do is touch the top of the drain to close it and touch it again to pop it back open, which makes vessel sinks that much cooler.
